Virgin Mobile – Pop up retail and lifestyle brand experience
Project type: Convert an old container into mobile retail space
Project size: 30sqm (container)
Project cost: R1 Million
We conceptualized and designed a high tech mobile space which was the first of its kind in South Africa. The Virgin Mobile Pop Up Store, known as Vpop, is best described as a 12m long recycled shipping container, which flapped open on its one long side, half to the ground and half to sky, automated on hydraulics. The high end designs and finishes have been a hot talking point, as passer by and visitors alike watched the Vpop transform daily from container to glossy retail space.
In addition to Virgin Mobile products and offerings, visitors to the Vpop could purchase a range of limited edition fashion items commissioned exclusively from popular local designers while a portion of the proceeds went to charity to support entrepreneurship in fashion. The Virgin Mobile Pop Up Store was also a place to come and relax, enjoy a coffee from the on-board Lulu bar, browse the net at the laptop counter where iBurst offered free wireless, or check out the preview exhibition by Adidas Originals.
